Abstract:
The electric charge is quantized in the standard model. However, particles with non-quantized electric charge, often referred to as millicharged particles, exist in a variety of new physics models beyond the standard model. In this talk, I will discuss the theoretical models in which millicharged particles can naturally occur, and the experimental searching methods. Although a number of terrestrial searches have been carried out for millicharged particles, significant millicharge is still allowed for mass larger than 100 MeV. We found that electron colliders, e.g. BESIII or Belle-II, can probe these unexplored parameter regions above 100 MeV.
