報告題目： Why energy and mass can be converted between each other? A new perspective using a matter wave model 報告人：張東才教授香港科技大學報告時間： 2016-9-2 10:30 報告地點：理科樓三樓報告廳（C302）摘要： It was suggested from the special theory of relativity that energy and mass can be converted between each other. But, energy and mass are two very different physical concepts; how can they be exchanged with each other? We think the key to answer this question is to realize that particles are waves in nature. Thus, particle properties like energy and momentum are related to their corresponding wave properties (frequency and wave vector). Mass is clearly a particle property, can it also be related to a wave property? Such possibility is investigated in this work. We found that mass and energy indeed share similar physical nature in the wave perspective. Both of them are related to the curvature of bending the vacuum medium during the propagation of the excitation wave. This similarity allows them to be convertible.

台灣大學理學士（物理），美國萊斯大學（Rice University）物理學碩士和博士。曾任美國貝勒(Baylor)醫學院助理教授及副教授，香港科技大學教授及講座教授。曾任客座教授（Visiting Professor）在beat365（1981）與清華大學（1986）講學；并曾在加州大學聖地亞哥分校（1996）與錢永健教授合作研究。現任香港科技大學榮休講座教授(Professor Emeritus)及特聘教授（Adjunct Professor）。其它經曆包括：香港科學會院士(Fellow)，香港科技大學“跨學科論壇”召集人，香港生物物理學會會長，香港科學會理事及副會長，亞洲生物物理學會理事，香港科技大學教務委員會(Senate)委員，及校董會(Council)成員。北京《科技導報》編委，日本《生物物理》期刊副編輯。美國全美華人協會Houston分會會長等等。
張教授的研究興趣很廣，包括：宏觀科學研究，生物物理，量子物理等等。張教授出版了三本專著；學術論文超過一百篇（包括Nature, Science, PNAS, Biophys J等），并擁有近二十項國際專利。
